This book explains how to live in the wild but nothing about instant survival if you get stranded. I was looking for a book that would give me more tips on how to survive if by chance i was lost or stranded in the wild, not if i decided to move out of my house and live under a tree.
This is a good and informative book. There are instructions for snares that I never did understand. The directions are fairly easy to follow. Some of the pictures and sketches are hard to see what's being demonstrated since they are all in black and white. A good book for the necessities of survival. It gets a little advanced towards the end when it goes into brain tanned hide.
some of the info found in the book, i was aware of. primative to the extreme. and in this instance, that is a compliment. but there is so much to learn from this book that it is mind boggling. kudos to the McPherson.
P.S. IT HAS BEEN A VERY HELPFUL BOOK FOR ME.
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT BOOK TO LEARN THE BASICS OF PRIMITIVE/NATIVE AMERICAN SURVIVAL SKILLS. JOHN AND GERI DO A GREAT JOB OF EXPLAINING AND ILLUSTRATING THE VARIOUS SKILLS WITH DESRCIPTIONS AND PHOTOGRAPHS.
TRUST ME. IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER WITH PRIMITIVE SURVIVAL KNOWLEDGE, START WITH THIS BOOK.
ALTHOUGH THE PHOTOS ARE BLACK AND WHITE, THEY ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO GET THE POINT ACROSS TO YOU. IF SOMEDAY SOON YOU ARE FORCED TO ABANDON YOUR HOME AND RUN INTO THE WILDERNESS WITH NOTHING BUT THE CLOTHS ON YOUR BACK, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SURVIVE IF YOU LEARN THE SKILLS THAT JOHN AND GERI TEACH IN THIS BOOK AND YOU WILL THANK YOUR SWEET JESUS THAT YOU DID.
THANK YOU JOHN AND GERI. AS THIS BOOK DOES NOT TEACH ANYTHING ABOUT EDIBLE WILD PLANTS FOR FOOD, I SUGGEST A BOOK TITLED: THE ESSENTIAL WILD FOOD SURVIVAL GUIDE BY: LINDA RUNYON
Great book and lots of useful information. I've lived in the country my whole life and have probably spent as much time in the woods as I have in a house. I bought this book mainly for the brain tanning section but when I read I found useful things that I was unaware of. The only thing I noticed was that it had no section on water purification but other than that it is a useful book with many helpful tips.
